WORLD KITCHEN GARDEN DAY 2009
WORLD KITCHEN GARDEN DAY 2009
23rd Aug 2009
Who is not aware of Kitchen Garden?
Kitchen garden serves many requirements of a house. Whether it is vegetables required for cooking, flowers for Pooja, and fruits for desserts, a place for kids to play, rejoice and research or a place to dispose kitchen waste.
There can be no joy which can substitute the happiness derived by eating fruits and vegetables you harvest from plants you tender to daily. The art of Kitchen gardening has few takers today due to the emerging modern lifestyles. We have enough reasons like “We are busy”, “We don’t have water facilities”, “We don’t have space” etc. We have stopped transferring knowledge of kitchen gardening which we as kids imbibed from our parents. Do you still think our kids should go to the malls and eat those junk foods and buy fruits and vegetables laden with pesticides and insecticides?
To revive Kitchen Garden culture and to bring awareness on local dietary habits, “WORLD KITCHEN GARDENING” is being celebrated on August 23, 2009.
On that day world over, people celebrate either at home or in groups by digging, sowing, harvesting, planting, drinking, cooking and savoring organic food and by dancing in their gardens. All residents of a locality can come together and celebrate in their own methods.
You can participate in the “World Kitchen Garden Day”celebration, jointly organized by Bio Centre and Sahaja Samruddha in Biotechnology Centre, Hulimavu, Bannerghatta Road, Bangalore-76 on 22 Aug 2009 at 2 pm.
There is also an interaction on Kitchen Garden methods, Demonstration of various kitchen gardens, Seeds exchange program and socializing of people who want to build a better world for tomorrow.
Please make time to participate. We request you to bring rare plants, seeds, photographs and books for the day.
Kitchen Garden Day is a symbol of hope for our children’s future.
